Dadra and Nagar Haveli is one of the 7 union territories in India, established in 1961 with Silvassa as its capital. With an area of 491 kilometres it is situated on the west coast of India. It is composed of two different parts – Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Dadra is surrounded by Gujarat and Nagar Haveli shares borders with Gujarat and Maharashtra. It lies in the watershed areas of Daman-Ganga River.

The gentle and calm Sakartod River flows past Khanvel. A 20-km drive from Khanvel lie Dudhni where the huge waterfront of river Daman Ganga offers an amazing view of the water spread over Madhuban Dam. The important tribes inhabiting Dadra and Nagar Haveli are Dhodia, Dublas, Koli, Kathodi, Varlies, Kokana and Naika. Each of these tribes have their precise lifestyle and unprecdented conventional legacy that can’t be matched by any other tribal group in any corner of the world.The Tribal Museum housed in the union territory’s capital, Silvassa showcases a priceless collection of rare treasures. Archetypal tribal artifacts that are used by the people for domestic or occupational purposes or maybe their crude agricultural tools, hunting and fishing tools all find pride of place behind the museum’s glass cases. On display life size models stand to portray the tribal way of life. The Vanganga Lake Garden is situated at a distance of five km from Silvassa. It is a superbly tended landscaped garden coupled with a glowing sylvan lake that accentuates the natural splendor of the surroundings. Vasona’s Lion Safari is about 10km away from the Silvassa and is spread over twenty acres, offers you an interesting experience. It is basically a part of the area of Dadra & Nagar Haveli Wildlife Sanctuary. It has a seven meter high wall to ensure safety. Tourists are driven in vans that are fitted with net mesh screens to excursion the dense land and admire the majestic Asiatic lions in their natural habitat.These lions were particularly brought from Gir Sanctuary. The complete area is protected to ensure complete protection to visitors.
Church of Our Lady of Piety
A reminder of Portuguese rule in the land, Church of Our Lady of Piety was constructed by the Portuguese in the late 18th century and it’s believed to had been built around 1886 or 1889. The Church is one of the oldest buildings in Silvassa. It is situated opposite Tribal Museum. The stone made church has splendid arches at the outside and well built interiors. You can have some peaceful moments for yourself when you are inside.
The location of the territory near the National Highway 8 or the Western Express Highway allows it connect to the Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Baroda. It can even be reached by Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express and Karnavati Express which run through the Vapi railway station, the nearest station to Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The closest airport is at Mumbai (164 Kms). All primary domestic and international operates regular flights to/from Mumbai.
