THE GOVERNMENT MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY
The Government Museum and Art Gallery is one of the most known museums in India owing to the distinctive assortment of paintings, art objects and sculptures like miniature paintings from Gandhara, Pahari and Rajasthan sculptures. This museum owes most of its exhibits to the partition of India in1948 when nearly forty percent of objects were brought from Lahore Museum. The museum was inaugurated in 1968 and is located in the heart of Chandigarh with a sprawling campus. The Museum has four major wings the national history museum, art gallery, the national gallery of portraits and the Chandigarh architecture museum. Its star attractions include its collection of over 4000 Rajasthani and Pahari miniature paintings, and over 600 Buddhist sculptures from the Gandhara region. The Chandigarh Architecture Museum cojointly displays rare sketches and plans associated with the design of the city. It opens for public daily between 10:00 a. m. and 4:30 p.m. except on Mondays, national and public holidays.
One of the leading tourist attractions of Chandigarh, the Rock Garden is visited by an average of five thousand individuals daily. Nek Chand, the founder of Rock Garden was a former government official who started cultivating this garden secretly in his spare time. The garden features many interlinked causeways that run along the waterfalls of the Sukhna Lake and is landscaped with pottery and sculptures of dancers, animals and musicians. It’s laid out sort of fantasy land, filled with narrow corridors, staircases, bridges, amphitheatres, a spectacular waterfall and an ethnic market at the end. It is inhabited by unusual animal and human figures, made using recycled junk material like bangles, wire, bottles, steel drums,light switches, broken bathroom sinks, bicycle frames and tiles. The park has now become part of a recycling project and one of the city’s major crowd-pullers.Highlights include a legion of dancing girls made up of broken glass bangles and a graceful arcade of high arches with suspension rope swings. Its distinctive and immense sculptures have grabbed the attention of individuals from all over the globe.

The picturesque Sukhna lake is an idyllic place for quiet communion with nature in the foothills of Shivalik range. It’s a man-made lake about 3 km long created during 1958. Sukhna Lake is the solely noteworthy lake of Chandigarh and is one of the well-maintained lakes of India. The Sukhna Lake serves Chandigarh like heart serves to the body. A stream known as Sukhna Choe was dammed and therefore gave rise to the Sukhna Lake. It is a peaceful spot with beautiful waterfront and the calling of birds adds to the serene atmosphere. Variety of water sporting activities like boating, yachting and water skiing, are carried out here. Known as the lungs of the city, the Leisure Valley is an excellent place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It was Le Corbusier’s endeavor to form such an area where individuals can enjoy a clean atmosphere and take a breath in fresh air. This Valley is now over 8 kms long that covers the area all the way from Sector-1 in the north to the southern most end of Chandigarh in Sector-53. With a total of 12 parks the most visited gardens include Asia’s largest Rose Garden, Botanical Garden, Smriti Upvan, Habiscus Garden, Topiary Park, Terrace garden, Fitness Trails and Shanti Kunj amongst others. Every park has different kinds of bougainvillea, hibiscus and fragrant flowers; fitness trails and even a replica of the Eiffel Tower.
The Pinjore Gardens were created in the 17th century on the foot-hills of Shivalik Range. These lie 22 km from Chandigarh on the Ambala-Shimla highway. As per the Hindu mythology, it were the Pandav Brothers who resided in Pinjore througout their exile. The Pinjore Gardens are created precisely at the place where the Pandavas resided .The construction of the Garden was done by Nawab Fidal Khan, designer to the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.These restored Mughal-era gardens are spread across seven levels, interspersed with lawns, palaces, a zoo and a Japanese garden. A central water channel runs through the whole stretch, with fountains at regular intervals. Covering an area of 100 acres, the Pinjore Garden is full of abundance of grass and tree greenery.There are a couple of cafe-restaurants like Jal Mahal and Budgerigar Motel inside the gardens, where you’ll stop and admire the views of the encompassing Shivalik Hills.

Garden of Fragrance in Chandigarh is a must visit garden of the town.Set in Sector 36 of Chandigarh, this is one of the most outstanding gardens of the city.The garden is known for its pleasant smelling assortment of aromatic and sweet-smelling flowering plants, and therefore the name, ‘Garden Of Fragrance’. A number of such fragrant plants are Champa, Raat ki rani, motia demask roase etc. The garden has been planned properly with plants lined in stunning styles and paths, making pretty scenery and spectacular views for the tourists. The garden can be visited at any time of the year, and also at any time of the day. The Garden of Fragrance is located towards the south of the Hibiscus Garden. The garden is popular among public, as one of the best picnic spots in the city. Garden of Fragrance also serves as a fabulous picnic and jogging spot. Jogging and walking tracks have been laid out in the garden for the convenience of those who wish to enjoy a morning or evening walk in the gorgeous and refreshing surroundings.

INTERNATIONAL DOLL MUSEUM
International Dolls Museum is one of the hotspots of Chandigarh. It is one of the best museums of India and is Internationally acclaimed too.Established in 1985, the museum is at Bal Bhawan, in Sector 23, Chandigarh. Created as an amusement hub for kids, International Dolls Museum has become a major tourist attraction of the city.The place isn’t solely desirable for children but for adults also and take them to a different world, ideal to visit their childhood. It encompasses an amusement park for children as well as toy trains, except for its collection of gorgeous dolls. As many as 300 completely different types of dolls, collected from Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Korea and Russia, are displayed in the museum, that is simply a visual delight for kids. Named after India’s former President, Zakir Hussain, the garden was established in 1967 under the guidance of late Dr M S Randhawa, Chandigarh’s first Chief Commissioner. It is Asia’s largest Rose Garden and is spreaded over 30 acres of land having more than 17,000 plants representing some 1600 completely different species of roses. These are planted in fantastically carved out lawns and flowers beds. Alongwith the roses emphasis was also given on the trees of medicinal value and few distinctive specimen trees to enhance the beauty of the garden. The medicinal trees planted here are bel, camphor, bahera, harar, and yellow gulmohar. Every year, either at the end of February or beginning of March, a giant festival known as Rose Festival, is celebrated at this garden. This is one of the main cultural events of the town and draws thousands of visitors.There are lots of competitions, cultural celebrations and lots of other events.
