Andhra Pradesh is one of the twenty nine states of India, on the southeastern coast. The state is the 8th largest state in India covering a region of 160,205 km. The state has a coastline, the second longest among all the states of India after Gujarat i.e.974 km. It is bordered by Telangana in the north-west, Karnataka in the west, Odisha in the north-east, Chhattisgarh in the north, Tamil nadu in the south and the Bay Of Bengal in the east. Andhra Pradesh Tourism has invariably been the frontrunner in attracting large number of tourists, Indian and foreign, as it boasts of a naturally, religiously, culturally and ecologically rich and diverse variety of destinations that are treasures of visual treat where one can explore new experiences of visitant gratification and delight.
Andhra Pradesh having the longest eastern coastline and with a path of Buddha Period glory, homes and holds several heritage sites adorned with architectural masterpieces ,pristine splendor,citadels and the forts, designed by the past Royal Emperors. On 2 June 2014, the north-western part of the state was divided to form a new state of Telangana. According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Hyderabad will remain the de jure capital of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states for a period of not more than 10 years. The new river-front proposed capital is Amaravati, under the jurisdiction of APCRDA
Hyderabad, the fascinating capital is reason enough on its own to visit here. Its old quarter of vibrant markets, biryani restaurants,teahouses and slender lanes are decorated with the palaces and monuments of bygone dynasties. On the city’s fringes is legendary Golconda fort and tombs of departed royalty. Hyderabad’s newer districts are lit up by the stylish restaurants, bars, boutiques and hotels of IT-fuelled economic advance.
Visakhapatnam has several stunning beaches along the Bay Of Bengal. The Yarada beach of Andhra Pradesh is a beauty. It is one of the best beaches to be seen in this coastal region, is about 15 kilometers away from Vishakhapatnam This place would be nice for people who would like to learn more about Andhra Pradesh’s religion, history, culture and architecture. There are several temples you’ll visit and a great lot of fun opportunities you’ll fancy.
The Mypadu beach is about twenty kilometers away from Nellore. It is full of stunning green trees and beautiful grass where you can enjoy yourself.The weather is balmy and the blue waters are sparkling. The Rishikonda Beach of Andhra Pradesh is totally exotic. The long stretch of golden sand, pristine waters and pleasant climate goes to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul. It’s about 600 kilometers from Hyderabad and has thousands of tourists each year. The Ramakrishna Beach is a preferred beach for water sports and surfing. It is quite inhabited and offers its guests number of the most natural and breathtaking views. There are other beaches too along the coastline namely R. K. Beach, Lawsons Bay Beach, Suryalanka Beach.
The Borra Caves in the Ananthagiri Hills are at a distance of ninety two Km north of Visakhapatnam. These are known for million-year-old stalactite and stalagmite formations. The caves open with about seventy five meters on vertical plane and one hundred meter on horizontal plane. These caves cover an area of 1 sq.km. and the origin of river Gosthani that flows through the district. Breath taking mountanious terrain, stunning landscape, semi-evergreen wet deciduous forests, and wild fauna of the area are a visual feast. This cave is the biggest in India. These caves were discovered by British geologist William King George in 1807.
The Belum Caves in Kurnool District is the second largest cave in Indian subcontinent and the longest caves in plains of Indian Subcontinent, have a length of 3,229 metres. It is known for its stalactite and stalagmite formations. Belum Caves have spacious chambers, fresh water galleries, long passages and siphons. The caves’ deepest point is 120 feet from the doorway and is known as Patalganga.
HILLS AND VALLEYS
Araku is known hill station of AP. It is at a distance of one hundred and twenty km from Visakhapatnam. The Sunkarimetta and Anantagiri Reserved Forest, which are part of Araku Valley, are rich in biodiversity. It is known for its scenic beauty that attracts a sizable amount of tourists. Located on the eastern ghats, it has thick forests, valley, waterfalls, coffee plantations and streams flowing by the side of the train track and roads. The journey to Araku Valley is the most enjoying because the rail passes through hill sides, tunnels and streams. . It is better to travel to Araku by train and come by road.
Horsley Hills is a summer hill resort and is one of the eminent places in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is at an elevation of 1,265 metres and attracts ample tourists. It is a preferred hill station in the state and is the departure point for the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary at a distance of 87 km. The Papi Hills in Khammam district close to Bhadrachalam surrounding the Godavari river is also popular.
The state has rich forests, numerous flora & fauna that has ample scope for promoting tourism. The state has many National Parks, Sanctuaries, Zoological Parks like Coringa, Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve, Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary, Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park etc. Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary and Atapaka Bird Sanctuary attracts several migratory birds.
Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. It is some twenty km away from Kakinada, Headquarters of East Godavari District. After Sundarbans this is the second largest mangrove in the country.The Coringa mangrove is known for its flora and fauna. The Forest Department is providing a chance to the public to go deep into the mangroves on the new arranged interior roads, besides enjoying a boat ride to the sea–mouth. The mangrove forest unfold in the CWS is a home for different kind of birds together with various endangered and near threatened species also.
Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary has a large variety of flora and fauna in their natural environment. Spread across a region of around seventy one sq. km. It is covered with dry evergreen forest mixed with shrubs and meadows. The sanctuary preserves endangered Indian Leopard along with various other animals. Tourists may also spot varied species of Indian Cobra,Russell’s viper, Indian Muntjac, Asian Paradise-flycatcher and Indian Jackal here.
Krishna Sanctuary is found close to Avanigadda village extending over 194.81-km. Mangrove forest on the estuary of river Krishna harbouring Fishing Cat, Estuarine crocodile,Otter Jackal and a range of seasonal birds.
Rollapadu Bird sanctuary is located 60-km from Kurnool close to Nandikotkuru. It spreads over a region of 614-sq-km. This sanctuary is home for the endangered Great Indian Bustard. The land is covered with open grass and dry thorny bushes. Varied types of animals, birds, and reptiles found here are Indian Bustard, Indian Roller, Sparrows, Mynas, Black Buck, Bonnet Macaque, Russell’s Viper, Indian Cobra, Jackal, Wolf and Indian Fox.
Pulicat Sanctuary is 60-km from Chennai, spreading over Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. It covers a complete space of 500-sq-km. It’s known as the second largest brackish water lagoon in India on the coast of Bay Bengal. Backwaters of the ocean attract massive numbers of migratory water birds. It is also a well-known feeding and breeding ground for range of aquatic and terrestrial birds.
The state is home to several pilgrim destinations. Some popular temples, Buddhist shrines, mosques and churches of religious importance which are visited by tourists include Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati, Birla Temple in Hyderabad ,Srisailam temple, Kanaka Durga Temple of Vijayawada, Kotappakonda in Narasaraopet, Amaravathi,Srikalahasti temple,Shahi jamia masjid in Adoni, Gunadala Church in Vijayawada, Buddhist centres at Amaravati, Nagarjuna Konda etc. and many more.
Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati needs no introduction to any Hindu in any part of the world. It’s one of the most important cultural and religious pilgrimage in India. The city is situated at the southern part of Andhra Pradesh and is settled at the foothills of the Eastern Ghats in the Chittor district. Individuals come to the temple to worship Venkateswara or Balaji, incarnation of Vishnu, one of the trinities of Indian mythology. The design of the main temple of Tirupati Temple is superb and magnificent. The Vimana constructed over the sanctum and the Dhwajasthambam are gold plated. The temple is the richest religious place in the world by the virtue of offerings and gifts given by pilgrims visiting the temple.
Birla Temple, Dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara, in Hyderabad is one of the most visited temples in Andhra Pradesh. Designed by the known businessman Birlas, it’s fully designed of marble brought from Rajasthan. It’s settled on a hill called as Kala Pahad and is near to other attractions of the town like the Hussain Sagar Lake and overlooks Tankbund. The most effective time to get a look of the temple is during the late evening when it is fully lighted.
The Srisailam Temple – Kurnool is found among the deep green forests of Nallamalai hills. The Sri Sailam Temple has beautified the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. It’sone of the sacred places in South India. The traditional temple of Sri Sailam or Sree Sailam stands on the shores of River Krishna.
Amaravati is vital to each Hindus and Buddhists as there are places that are worshiped by people of both religions. There is a large temple dedicated to Lord Shiva apart from many stunning Buddhist sculptures. Situated by the banks of River Krishna, the place is considered sacred and is said to have ‘sthalamahatyam’.
Mecca Masjid situated simply few yards southwest of Charminar, is among the most revered site for Muslims in Andhra Pradesh. The mosque is known as Mecca Masjid, because the bricks for building the central arch were brought from Mecca. The main attraction of the mosque is the grand main hall that is 75 feet high, 220 feet wide, and 180 feet long. Their area fifteen arches overall with five on each side.
The state is well connected to other states through road and rail networks to other states. It is cojointly connected to other countries with airways and seaports. With an extended seashore along the Bay of Bengal, it also has several ports for sea trade. The state has one of the most important railway junctions at Vijayawada and one of the largest seaports at Visakhapatnam.
The hotels in Andhra Pradesh are its backbone. They add fantastically to the business of Andhra Pradesh. The state has some superior hotels catering to the requirements of the tourists.
